How to organise your inventory

A useful inventory isn't exhaustive: it focuses on what has value or wears out, and takes a few minutes to update twice a year.

Prioritise what matters

There's no need to list every teaspoon: focus on furniture, appliances and equipment that's costly to replace. Consumables (everyday dishes, linen) are better tracked through the cleaning checklist.

A "condition" column, not just a quantity

Noting the condition at the time of the inventory makes it easier to tell normal wear from recent damage during a later check.

For several properties

Duplicate the template per property rather than putting everything in one file: it's simpler to keep each property's inventory up to date separately. See also the cleaning schedule for multiple properties.
